Located in Roncesvalles Village โ€œRoncyโ€ in the west end of Toronto, Another Story Bookshop is a progressive bookstore with a broad range of books for children and adults, with an emphasis on social justice, equity, and diversity.

Opened in 1987, Another Story remains a beloved neighbourhood staple thirty years laterโ€”even being featured in the New York Times in 2017 โ€œA Toronto Bookstore Amplifies Marginalized Voicesโ€

The guiding principle of the bookstore is to put diverse books into diverse hands. The owners are dedicated to promoting works by marginalized voices particularly Black, queer, and indigenous writers. Thereโ€™s a mix of new fiction and nonfiction, with about two-thirds of the selection focused on showcasing Canadian authors.

Half of the store is devoted to childrenโ€™s books (I picked up a great book on Chinese Celebrations for Children for my future baby to learn about their heritage) and YA titles, including a small French section. It also operates a wholesale business, supplying childrenโ€™s titles to schools and libraries.

A clean, organized shop to browse, itโ€™s easy to see why itโ€™s been a local favourite for three decades.
