Good Egg is a food-focused bookstore for bookish gastronomes in the heart of Kensington Market.

After a four year hiatus, owner Mika Bareket re-opened the bookshop during the pandemic in 2021. The outside mural by local artist Ness Lee came with the building and perfectly fits the vibrant, artsy aesthetic inside.

My favourite part of the whimsical decor was the faux charcuterie and sausages hanging from the ceiling handmade from old pantyhose and butcher’s twine.

Cookbooks are organized geographically—from the Baltics to Korea, and beyond. The store is divided into sections with books and cookware, baking essentials, a kids’ corner (I loved the Julia Childs picture cookbook for tiny chefs), an area for thrifted items (with a portion of the proceeds going to a local soup kitchen), greeting cards, and a small selection of vinyl (for your next dinner party). I picked up a multi-coloured handmade trivet and Simply Chinese by Suzie Lee.
